Fear-mongering is the lowest form of public incitement. Weaving horror stories out of thin air is absolutely irresponsible, and providing simplistic, sensational explanations for serious but commonplace problems only stifles productive discussion.
Our public debate today should be centered upon our nation's aging infrastructure, the public health, and what each of us can do to ensure that our families are kept safe in the home, that bastion of security and of independence that British wizards have preserved against intrusion since time immemorial. I won't speculate as to the sincerity - nor the motives - of The Quibbler's editors, but I hope they will find the decency to run a retraction, or at least to provide some evidence beyond wholesale fabrications for their very serious allegations.
In this climate, so recently destabilized by Minister Bagnold's sad departure, sowing panic in this way is nothing short of shameful.

My gratitude to the Furmage Foundation for the Support of Disturbed Witches and Wizards for bringing together such a diverse range of concerned citizens for yesterday evening's forum. I found all of the support to be inspiring.

If I never have another glass of champagne again, it will be entirely too soon.

I've made you an appointment with the Deputy Head of Trading Standards. Ten-thirty Monday morning. Be sure to clear it with your supervisors first, of course. If you truly mean to secure an actual entry-level position, I'd not treat this lightly.

In all my combined years serving this Department - and there have been many, for which I'm very grateful indeed - I've never received as much correspondence from the general public as I have in the past twelve months. Part of the increase must of course be attributed to the fact that I have recently for the first time put myself forth as a truly public figure, but there are certainly more significant trends in play. First, I fear, is the growing anxiety among the populace at large, the weight of which lies most heavily on those whose love of peace is strongest; the second, I hope, is the impression this Department has made upon the people as an institution receptive to concern and robustly capable of providing strong solutions to matters of public safety. A healthy faith in the Ministry and its agents is essential in such times as these.
So while my inclination is to suggest that such correspondence - requests, recommendations, reproofs, etc. - be directed in the future to persons with more freedom to address individual concerns, I suppose it makes more sense at this point to encourage it. A man who would place himself at the head of such an important organization should be thankful for any contributions he can get.
I'll have to beg off on individual replies, I fear, as I've been informed that I'm quite useless when it comes to writing personal letters.
